Credentials & Background
Nikki Ponte is a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) registered to practice in the province of Ontario, Canada. She completed her SLP training at McMaster University in Hamilton where she received the McMaster SLP Entrance Award, as well as the Clinical Achievement award in 2019 for her work as a student in a hospital setting. Currently, Nikki is a PhD Candidate in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Toronto. She concurrently works part-time at the Halton District School Board as a school-based SLP, where she provides consultative speech and language support to school-aged children. Nikki serves as a clinical adjunct professor at McMaster University where she supports problem-based learning, and provides clinical supervision to SLP students completing their professional masters degrees.
Prior to becoming an SLP, Nikki was full time singer/performer and toured locally and internationally as a solo recording artist and in theatrical productions. Her performance career spans across Canada, Europe, and the Unites States. In 2015, Nikki founded a children’s theatre company The Fairytale Factory and produced small children’s shows across the GTA for 6 years. She continues to perform with her wedding & corporate events band Switchbeat, and uses her experience as a children’s entertainer to make therapy fun and engaging! Her belief is that connection, comfort, and excitement precede quality clinical outcomes. It is her greatest privilege to work in such a rewarding field!
