SPEECH
Articulation/phonological therapy aims to improve overall speech clarity and mental organization of sounds by encouraging accurate speech sound production and discrimination. After an initial assessment, your speech pathologist develops an intervention plan to target various speech skills. With consistent home practice and adherence to the treatment plan, most clients are able to achieve notable improvement in overall clarity and organization of speech.
STUTTERING
Fluency (stuttering) therapy focuses on helping children express themselves by reducing stuttering tendencies, increasing stuttering awareness/acceptance, and teaching self-advocacy skills. After an in-depth assessment, your clinician will develop an intervention plan based on your child and family’s individual goals. The goal of speech fluency therapy is in the management of symptoms/attitudes rather than complete elimination of stuttering behaviours.
VOICE
Voice therapy focuses on helping children use their voice with ease in activities critical to early development including academic, social and extracurricular activities. A multi-faceted assessment including acoustic analysis of voice, perceptual assessment, and client report is utilized to develop goals for voice therapy. The clinician will facilitate a combination of evidence-based strategies to support your child in achieving maximal participation in activities they enjoy.
LANGUAGE
Language therapy may involve helping children with language delays acquire new words, improve in their ability to form complex sentences, understand and answer questions, and participate in conversations with peers. Based on a consultation and in-depth assessment with a speech-language pathologist, therapy goals are developed to support your child in building important language skills. A combination of parent-delivered strategies and direct teaching is typically part of a comprehensive intervention plan.
LITERACY
Our approach to literacy centers around the science of reading and evidence-based literacy strategies. Though we are trained in a number of structured literacy approaches, a single dedicated reading program is often not enough to address deficits in literacy/pre-literacy skills that are unique and individual to each child. Speech-language pathologists play a key role as literacy professionals in recognizing that oral language forms the foundation to literacy success.
